Finding God Through Bitterness At Work
The book of Job and your Job have a lot more in common and here is how to handle it.

The Job Mindset
I do not know a single man alive who would sign up to live Job’s life. When you read through the entire book, you see moments of true depression (Job 30:16), despair (Job 16:15), anguish (Job 7:11), and suffering (Job 36:15). Yet through this, the book describes Job’s focus is consistently towards God and that his transgressions are merely because he is the pure servant of God.
This mindset is key for those looking to pursure a career centered in Christ. It is not always sunshine and rainbows. Often, we are faced with confusingly difficult circumstances, people who are against us, and our own human nature telling us it is no longer worth it to keep going.
The book of job provides the blueprint and understanding that suffering exists and God does allow it at times. But you are not alone even through your own bitterness and wandering.
(Job 23) begins with, “Even today my complaint is bitter…”. He iterates 4 times, “he is not there, I do not find him, I do not see him, I catch no glimpse of him…”. Yet he closes out the passage with such statements as, “I have not departed from the commands of his lips… such plans he still has in store… I am not silenced by the thick darkness that covers my face…”
Over and over again, the truth becomes clear. No matter the circumstance Job focuses his spirit, his eyes, and his heart towards our father in heaven. He curses and shaves his head at times, but he also drops to the ground in worship and rejoices in the Lord’s presence.
If you are exploring the options of a new career due to frustration with your current circumstances, we highly recommend this book. |
